Kansas Value-added Enterprise Creation

The Kansas Value Added Center (KVAC) is the agricultural component of the quasi-governmental Kansas Technology Enterprise Corporation (KTEC). KVAC's mission is largely to serve small and medium sized processing companies adding value to raw commodities produced in Kansas. Many KVAC projects concern feed stocks and feed grains. About one-fourth of total KVAC funding is devoted to non-food uses.

All KVAC projects must have a private sector client to insure that any KVAC-funded research is mission-linked.

KVAC is overseen by a statutory Leadership Council which includes the Dean of Agriculture at Kansas State, the Secretary of Agriculture and four legislatures.

Funding for KTEC comes from one-half of the proceeds of the Kansas Lottery. KVAC receives about $1 million per year.
